Here’s What to Do the Week Before Your Wedding
You’ve spent months, maybe even years counting down to the big day – and now you only have one week until you say your I Do’s! Before your wedding day comes, there are a few things you need to do so that nothing slips through the cracks. If you need help, ask your family and friends. They will be happy to help you out with checking everything off of your list!
Break in your wedding shoes
Wear those wedding shoes around the house while you’re completing all of these tasks. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing heels, flats, loafers, or tennis shoes – new shoes need broken in! Slip on some thinner socks to start breaking them in for a few days. This will save your feet from too much initial blistering. Then, if you’re wearing shoes without socks, take the socks off and wear them around for a few more days. Pay attention to where your feet are rubbing and be sure to grab any blister prevention spray or tape for the wedding day. Even if you don’t think you’ll need it, it’s better to be prepared!
Pack an emergenct kit
After you grab those blister prevention items, throw them into a bag or box labeled “emergency kit.” Here are a few items to put into your emergency kit as well: a mini sewing kit, scissors, tape, super glue, hair spray, bobby pins, a tide pen, extra deodorant, a nail file, pain relievers, fashion tape, safety pins, a mini steamer, a lint roller, tissues, extra earring backs, and a phone charger.
Clear your work/school to-do lists
Try to wrap up any outstanding projects 3-4 days before your wedding. Things tend to come up last minute in wedding planning, and you will be so excited, you’ll probably be distracted anyway! Try to get everything turned in and signed off on in advance.
Deliver your final headcount to the vendors
Take note of any last minute RSVP’s and send a final headcount to all of the relevant vendors, such as the venue, caterer, and bakery. You may want to round up a bit to make sure you have room and food for any surprise guests or lost RSVP’s.
Make sure you have the marriage license and all of the rings
These things are obviously super important! Give your marriage license to your officiant, a parent, or someone else you trust. Make up a box of all of your details (see this blog post for a list of items to put in this box) and include all of the rings and the ring boxes.
Take care of final payments and prepare gratuities
Double-check that all vendors are paid. If you have any outstanding payments, take care of these early so you don’t have to stress about them. Additionally, prep any gratuities/tips by putting cash in envelopes and labeling them. Put your wedding planner, day-of coordinator, or parents in charge of handing these out the day of your wedding so you can just focus on having a great time!
Pack for your honeymoon
Check the weather for your destination and load up that suitcase! Pro tip: Also pack an overnight bag if you’re staying in a hotel the night after your wedding.
Clean your house
You will feel so much better if you take the time to get your living space spotless before wedding week. Wedding week is always a fun time full of energy, but things can definitely get messy and there are usually people in and out of your house. Create a calming environment by getting everything clean in advance.
Make a killer playlist for getting ready
Be sure to include some Beyonce. Enough said.
Confirm that all of your point people are good to go
Check with your maid of honor/person of honor/best man/etc. that they have all of the important details. Email your DJ and make sure they have the final order of events for the reception. Make sure your parents know what to bring and when to bring it. Confirm any details, and remember to have a great wedding week!
